Verging on Paradise, Sundays in My City

Thanks again to hostess extraordinaire, Unknown Mami, for a fascinating blogland tour, Sundays in My City. Visit her site to visit the world.

"It is better to have your head in the clouds, and know where you are...

Welcome to the Butte Creek Watershed. We're at the verge of Paradise and Chico, overlooking Butte Creek. This area's referred to as a "Mini Grand Canyon." The view really is spectacular. I haven't captured it well. I'm more impressed with the clouds right now.
Winds aren't too strong, so don't worry about the 25 mile drop.
than to breathe the clearer atmosphere below them,
and think that you are in paradise."
-Henry David Thoreau
Paradise, CA trivia:
-Population in 2011 = 26, 408
-Scenes from Gone With the Wind were filmed here.
-Richard Moore of Wild Thing (the song) glory and the Troggs (the band) lives here. I met him at a party, nice guy.
-Tom Selleck has a home just north of here.
-54 registered sex offenders reside here. Chico isn't far behind. In fact, they tend to gravitate to Butte County (Chico, Paradise, Oroville, and the greater area), generally.

On that note, keep your head in the clouds and stay grounded.

Have a safe and peaceful Sunday and new week.
Thank you for visiting.

  1. Those are some amazing clouds. Weird the area attracts sex offenders though.

  2. That's a lover's leap if I ever saw one. Ever run into Tom Selleck in the neighborhood?

  3. That's very pretty! But looks like a wee bit more than a 25' drop!

  4. Robyn your pictures have a sort of liquid, translucent quality - or I need better glasses - that makes them look like an oil painting. Very nice! One of these days I'm going to read Thoreau...maybe if my power goes out. Ooooh, hope not!

  5. Haha, JoJo, thanks. Oops. I meant 25 miles. Changed it.

DG, I haven't seen him but seen a lot of men who look like a short, balding version of him if I squint.

    Thanks, all.

  13. Head in the clouds is grand, maybe grab the sex offenders, yank them up and let them fall to the earth, no more sex offenders lol

  14. Wow! The pictures remind me of some giant 19th century paintings by American artists that we have in the St. Louis Art Museum! (maybe you're a photographic genius!)

    Blessings!

  17. when i was little, i would always try and make guess what the shapes of the clouds were. my sister and i would sit outside and stare at the sky for hours, arguing over what we really "saw". :)

  18. I googled 'Butte Creek' to make sure you weren't pulling our legs, Robyn. I suppose the people who named it had never heard of butt cracks. Could the name have attracted the sex offenders?

  19. Amazing cloud photos! I almost saw the outline of Tom Selleck's mustache in one of them.
