Inspiration, Weirdness, Scorpio and Methie

Hi, Friends,

Throughout the world was sent a big, bold message on the side of love, fairness, and justice for everyone. It was incredibly touching, uplifting, and hopeful to be in a crowd of thousands at Chico's March for Women. Did any of you go to a March? Watch from home?  Awesome, yes? I don't have photos, but I wanted to acknowledge such a historic day before I turn to selfish, micro matters.

-----------------------------------------More Prelude to the Bar Brawl--
You've met Scorpio. After his restless legs scurried out of my apartment to take a "break" (cuz, yeah, imagine the agony of dating me for an entire three weeks!), he ignored me completely. Nearly two months passed. Despite being hurt, I didn't reach out and figured it was for the best. I still frequented the bar where we met. Mind you, I hate the bar scene and don't drink at all. Many of my friends, though, are musicians, and there's a lively Open Mic at this bar.
You might recall that Scorpio hardly ever drinks alcohol, or so he told me. But when I saw him on a bar stool one night in December, he was red-faced, dopey, and gulping down beers.

Meet Methie.* Methie is missing a front tooth. Imagine Methie with said missing tooth in the exact middle (versus to one side or the other) of her mouth; 15 years older; and not nearly as pretty as the woman pictured. Image result for hillbilly woman missing a front tooth I'd been friendly with Methie off and on for a few years. Methie knows she's the world's greatest singer, though her voice is loud, screechy, and off-key. Methie likes men, especially men who talk to her. Methie drinks and smokes pot, like much of the community. As far as harder stuff, *let's just say that methamphetamines are known to completely destroy a person's mouth and gums.  And meth is tragically highly used in these here parts.
Why'd I introduce you to Methie? Because after I saw drunken Scorpio, I noticed that he and Methie were talking. It appeared they'd already become acquainted.
My friend Brandi and I sat at a table midway between the bar and the stage.
Minutes later, Methie casually approached us. "Hi Methie," I said, "so you were talking to my ex."
"I know, but he said you're not dating anymore Robyn. We're just talking, we both like hiking, Is that okay?" --Methie's speech rate increased, and she talked in weirdly spiraled contradictions that allowed no room for my response-- "we're only talking Robyn, we're going hiking, we both like to hike, we've been hanging out for three weeks, we're only friends. I'm so sorry. Is it okay?" Her face contorted into an expression of: I'm getting some and you're not but I'm pretending to care about you.
"Well no, Methie, it's awkward. You don't date a friend's ex, girl code. That's dis--"
Methie interrupted with a shout: "I didn't know you were dating until recently! We both like hiking. That's all. Okay, I won't hang out with him. I respect you too much." Methie nodded, as if she'd convinced herself. She then rushed over to drunken Scorpio at the bar. Next thing I saw was Methie with her arm around drunken Scorpio's shoulder. She escorted him to a booth a few yards from us, and within direct eye shot, one foot from the stage. There, they sat snuggly, as if about to perform for me. Blood pounded through my veins. I was hurt, perplexed, enraged.
Brandi turned to me, "Wait, Robyn, you were friends before, right?"
"Well, yeah, not good friends, but we were friendly."
"That's wrong of her. And Robyn," Brandi extended her neck to take a hard look at Methie, "Good Lord, you're way cuter! And at least you have all your teeth!"     -to be continued.

  1. This post made me think of that classic diss-your-new-rival anthem by gay singer/songwriter Chris Crocker called "Second to None." Here's the link -- just replace the word "He" in your mind with "She" -- and oh yeah, the lyrics are extremely NSFW. Enjoy!

    1. What a great anthem. It's appropriate and therapeutic. I just need to do a pronoun switch and add a lyric about her not having all her teeth. Thanks, Deb!

  2. I love that the Marches have taken place in more than sixty countries. And in many cities in those countries.
Methie and Scorpio sound perfect for each other. Strangers to the truth, disloyal and wasted.

"Strangers to the truth" <-yes. Too many are. Thank you.

  3. She wasn't high quality friends material anyway. And yes, they sound like they were perfect for each other.

    1. No, we weren't really friends. This was all about my ego - which it should not have been (or be) about. That's ridiculous.
      Thanks, Alex.

  4. I think she emphasized hiking waaaaay too much. Probably a couple of druggies getting high in the woods. Perfect for each other.

  5. There's much to be said for a woman your age with all of her teeth in place. I had a "Methie" acquaintance once. She was at least 15 years younger than you (i.e. barely out of diapers)and had none of her teeth left. She was an emotional mess and attempting to stay clean in order to see her children. Remember, ANYBODY gets to breed. Sheesh.

      Thanks, Jono.

  6. I can't help feeling relieved you've passed him to the next gal, Robyn. A woman needs a man she admires just a little, doesn't she?

    1. Good point, absolutely, GB. I've lowered the bar from admiration, though, to respect. If there's not mutual respect, there's nothing worth keeping. I have zero respect for a man who chooses that lifestyle - much less to be with a Methie.

  7. It sounds to me like they deserve each other. Karma may be stepping in to take care of things. You, on the other hand, deserve much better in both friend and boyfriend.

The marches all over the world were both inspiring and encouraging. I hope you have a nice Sunday.

  8. I agree w/ Connie...they do deserve each other. You are way out of his league anyway. I'm sorry that you were hurt though.

      Thank you, kind friend.

  9. I've been following the marches on the internet! HOLYMOLY...so amazing. So much unity, diversity and determination. A beautiful, joyful celebration. I just love it!

As for the two clowns you wrote about, they are one and the same. You deserve SOOOOO much better than this.

  10. A guy I know has a girlfriend that wears dentures due to past meth usage. Take heart. Maybe Methie will lose more teeth too.
I read about the marches. I also read this post today on FB by some woman on why she didn't support the marches and people I know were copy and pasting it. I really don't know why except for them thinking the whole thing was a Trump protest and them not bothering to read up on the whole thing

    1. It's a sign of huge success when others are threatened. There was nothing to criticize - not one arrest, marches throughout the world, including Antarctica. Thank you, Ruth.

  11. I know you are hurting and I think it is more your ego because you know you are so much better than dumb ass and the skank( that could be a new tv show). You were always friendly with this gal but she is not worth your friendship. She has , shall we say, issues, one bring jealousy....of you! You may not think that but she is otherwise she would not have acted the way she did. Scorpio has just shown what a true idiot he is and, boy, he just dived right into "freak zone possibly VD territory". I have had my ego hurt because it feels like crap that a man would go to someone who might be a good science experiment when he had a good looking, intelligent and funny woman but that just shows he's not worth it. He does not deserve your tears or thoughts...you deserve more.

  12. Things will get better, Robyn. When the planet gets past this cosmic entropy belt, they're bound to. It's slow-going, I know, but if everybody in the world got out and pushed, it'd go faster. People are working on it.

  13. I'm sorry friend. That just sucks, no other way to say it. Lick your wounds, be kind to yourself and give yourself time to grieve or meditate. In the end, you know your worth and that bum did not meet it. Love to you! :)

  14. I think they deserve each other. Better off, friend.

  15. I'm laughing and sad at the same time. This is just too weird and awful to make up. If anything, I'd say you dodged a big, meth-shaped bullet. Maybe Scorpio's secretly on meth. I don't see any other way that someone could pick her over you.

  18. Gals like Methie no NOTHING about girl code. To them, any male attention at all , all bets are off for being loyal to a "friend".
Like others have mentioned, you dodged a huge bullet with Scorpio.

  19. It sounds like Methie is not the truest friend, sadly.

I did go to a protest! In Madison, Wisconsin-- 100,000 people were there and it was so wonderful! The population of greater Madison is only about 500,000- so, what, one in five people were there? It was amazing.

Did you meet any men at the march? There were a lot of them at mine, and I thought if I were single, I would totally be hitting on guys who went to a women's march. :)

    1. Woohoo! 1 out of 5 - that is INCREDIBLE, Shoshanah. Thanks for telling me that. I can't imagine better stats were seen anywhere else, especially in such cold weather. Go Madison!! I was thinking the same about the men -- it sure would be nice to be with a man who walked. But all the ones I saw were partnered (with men and women). It was great to see a lot of male allies, though.

  22. I defer to sex advice columnist Dan Savage on this one, "My position is basically that an ex is like half-finished orders of fries. It's okay to ask, 'Are you gonna eat that?' And if the answer is no, well... waste not, want not." (Elaboration: http://chemistry.typepad.com/the_great_mate_debate/2007/06/dating_your_fri.html)
It seems grossly obvious, but what a weird impulse they had to put on a show for you. Yuck-o. Sorry you had to endure that.

  23. That's why in 2014 when I went to the dentist and found out I had some teeth related issues, I spent as much needed to resolve it. I want to keep my teeth for as long as possible. Well that 'friend' showed her true colors. Girl code exists for a reason. Take care Robyn.
