Review of Reviews of Celebrity Books

Dear Sillies,

How are you, my friends? It seems as though the New Year's celebrations were looong ago, am I right? So much has gone on this month. All the more reason to be good to yourselves.

Now, I'm sharing a few entertaining reviews about a few books.

Disclaimer: I'm not on Team Jessica Simpson but I am on Team Harry and Meghan!

First, Jessica's Simpson's 27 page "book":

One disappointed reader wrote this about Movie Star:

"The cover looks like something you will enjoy. Reminds me of dating a very well proportioned woman and you end up with an empty bra."

One embittered Brit wrote this about Spare:

"I agree with Harry wholeheartedly.
They should never have renamed Opal Fruits as Starburst."
Opal Fruits?? Are you kidding me? Harry, I kinda - well - adore you and Meghan, and, well, you. You both seem sincere and you keep getting beaten up. You're so cute, honey. But "Opal Fruits"? No, sweetie. Just no. Starburst is a much better name.

What do you think, my Sillies?

  1. I am not on either team. And emphatically won't buy either book and enrich their overladen coffers even further.

  2. I'm okay with Harry wanting Opal Fruits. When you grow up with the name of a product you love, and you associate it with your mom, then I understand not wanting it to change.

    Love,
    Janie

  3. I didn't realize that Starburst candies had a previous name! Sheesh, where have I been?

    1. I know. I don't know where you've been though, and I was there too, Debra. Sheesh!

  4. I've heard all sorts of things about Harry's book. Not sure what to think about it.

    1. I perused it, Mary. I think it's fairly well written but I'd be bored, so I didn't purchase it.

  5. Sorry I think Harry and his wife just need to go away. And especially if they didn't like the Starburst name!

    1. That's okay, Alex. I'd be happy for them and the world if they stopped getting media attention. They need to be left alone. And what's wrong with "Starburst"? It's a great name.

  6. I will never pick up either of these books. I just like my brain too much

    1. Haha. Good self care, Birgit. I like your brain too. Stay away from them!

  7. Opal Fruits sounds so... British.

    1. I know. Such a strange name - trying to make candy sound royal and nutritious. Those Brits! =)

  8. Well, there's two books that you won't find on my 2023 reading list (or any year beyond)

  9. On this, we will have to agree to disagree. As the mother of four boys, the only thing they could do to ruffle my momma feathers is to take public jabs at each other. Harry makes me sad. I'd feel more sympathy for them if they weren't cashing big checks from the family drama.

And with Jessica? She worries me a bit. She's very thin and looks wiped out. But then I think, poor gal, she got battered for being normal sized and looked at with suspicion when she lost the weight.

That's why I dodge fame. I don't want my kids selling my secrets or people harassing me for my big ass.

    1. Haha. Dodging fame is the best strategy to avoid all these problems. I like it. I can understand your sentiment regarding Harry and William, though I think the greater good - exposing evil wherever it exists, like in the dreadful monarchy - is more important than any one particular family.
      Hugs.

  10. I've been supportive of Harry and Meghan, but I think they need to move on a bit and just do good works. They've got the money and star power. Stop whining and show the monarchy what true royalty should look like.
I've got two other memoir books going right now - Bono's Surrender - interesting Irish man with a big heart. Also reading Michelle Obama's The Light We Carry - I love her. Just think she's cool, real, and is in "touch" with life. She's been up and down and has put a lot of thought into it all. I do think Bono and Michelle have used their fame wisely. They are older than Harry and a bit more aware of "getting over themselves."

    Cheers Robyn!

    1. Good points, Joanne. Yeah, hopefully Harry and Meghan will move on with heads held high and shake things up in a more altruistic way. I think Michelle Obama is awesome. Glad you're enjoying that one.
      Be well, my friend.
