Tribute to Jeremy Hawkins, Entertaining Celebrity Book Reviews

Dear Sillies,

In case you haven’t seen Alex’s blog, which you likely have, please visit it here. I talk about being crazy, and about songs with “crazy” in the title. My point is that there’s a good kinda crazy and a bad. What “crazy” songs come to your mind?

On a somber, very different note, Alex has planned a  FEBRUARY 2nd tribute for a close friend of his and many. This very special family man and blogger passed away in early January (from COVID), JeremyHawkinsJeremy was incredibly open hearted. He designed the IWSG logo, t-shirts, page headers . . . you name it. He refused to take money from us for his work. Such a sweet, special person. Jeremy’s artistic talents were spectacular too. Please consider supporting his family in any of the ways that Alex mentions

 ~~~~~Onto minutiae, I've been scanning celebrity book reviews to find some entertaining ones for you. Here we go:
4.0 out of 5 stars OK, so you're Rob Lowe? Now try and impress me.............PS If you think Rob is handsome you have never seen his dad!
To save you the time, his dad's a well respected lawyer in Ohio, indeed quite attractive.
Bad title, Mariah. Really? The meaning of you
In fairness, I did read a bit of it and you're a good writer. I got distracted, though, by senseless italicized words and quotation marks. Otherwise, I know you know that your book's been very well received. However, not everyone feels the same:
3.0 out of 5 stars A loooong trip to the therapist with Mariah
 1.0 out of 5 stars The meaning of who cares Poorly written and and full of ego.
Shania’s book looks to be the most vapid of these three.
I like Shania Twain, but I won't buy this one.
but i have to say, shania criticizes the 'other woman' for seducing mutt, but it takes two to tango, in my opinion and mutt was a big boy who knew exactly what he was doing.
Um, yeah. Damn mutt! FYI: Mutt is her ex husband who divorced Shania after Mutt had an affair with Shania's (married) friend. In turn, Shania married the man who was married to this "friend." Go, Shania! But do stop the whining, girlfriend.
Obviously many people have been divorced but few have the hundreds of millions of dollars and a castle in Switzerland to cushion them when starting over.
Excellent point. What could be so devastating that a romantic getaway with your hubby to your castle in Switzerland wouldn't help fix?
  1. I always like to see reviews which aren't vapid gushing. Which probably says more about me than the product.
    And in review related news Amazon finally agreed to publish my own gushing review of InSanity.
    I do hope that Jeremy knew he how much he was loved and appreciated before he left the world.
    1. Ha, it says a lot about me that I look first at the 1 or 2 star reviews, EC. I never trust the overly gushy ones.
      Thanks SO MUCH for the Amazon review. I don't know why they must have so many levels of screening and reviews for each and every review before they decide that the review is worthy of posting. Sigh. But I love you for writing it.
      I hope so too. It doesn't seem possible that he knew the full extent of love and appreciation, and he was so humble. But he was certainly well loved. I'm sure he knew that.
      Thanks, friend.
  2. Only Lowe's book interests me.
    Happy to host you this week and thank you for spreading the word about Jeremy's tribute. He was such an awesome guy.
    1. Yeah, Lowe's book sounds like a pretty good read. I'd give it a try too, Alex.
      It was a fun honor.
      Jeremy was one in a billion.
  3. Good guest post over at Alex's blog, Robyn! As for songs, how about the classic "Crazy" written by Willie Nelson and first recorded by the awesome Patsy Cline and then covered by everyone else in the music biz?
    Women who blame "the other woman" for seducing their man or who blame themselves (even worse) for his cheating are letting their immature asshole boyfriends/husbands off the hook for choosing to act in that manner. Just because someone is acting seductively doesn't mean you have to take the bait. Wise up, Shania!
    1. Thank you.
      Oh yes, Debra! I didn't think about that amazing classic "Crazy" sung by Patsy Cline. I fell in love with her as soon as I heard that one. Great reminder!
      Ha. I know, I'm equally disappointed in Shania and I hate it when the betrayed woman blames only the other woman. Get a spine, girlfriend. He's the one who betrayed your relationship. BTW, a lot of reviewers commented on this, so it really is a pathetic stance on her part.
  5. Famous people can be so shallow.
    That is still so sad about Jeremy.
  6. I didn’t know Jeremy well but I always tried to comment and thought he created great designs. I thought of that Pink Floyd song about the guy inside my head...I can’t remember the title...typical me. As for pretty boy, that man has a nice looking son. I bet Mariah Carey’s book had nothing but blank pages, right...I bet. I, too, like Shania but she is a hurting soul even after all these years...so I should go to her place in Switzerland and offer my services to listen to her sob story. She will never know that I moved my bags into the east wing.
    1. Jeremy seemed very sweet and modest. I wished I'd commented on his blog. I don't know if I ever did.
      I tried to find that song you're thinking of Birgit. Darnit. I can't. It seems they had an album, maybe, called Voices in My Head.
      Mariah and Shania's books are really long. One of them is over 400 pages -- I forget which one. But they might as well be blank.
      Let's go together to find Shania's castle in Switzerland. We can hide in one of the 212 rooms. She'll never know.
      Hugs.
  7. I didn't know Jeremy, but am sorry to hear of his passing. I like Rob Lowe, so might check out his book. Didn't know about his Ohio Dad, but since I'm in Ohio; guess that's pretty cool and right you are, he is good looking. Mariah Carey, nothing about her has ever interested me like wise Shania. I'm not much into following "starts".
    1. Oh yeah, Sandy, Rob Lowe's papa's office number is readily available. This makes me wonder how many clients have retained him for who he is and/or how handsome he is.
  8. I didn't know Jeremy but had seen postings, etc and you hate to lose anyone in blog world. I'm sure Alex will do a worthy tribute. That's nice.
    And glad you are getting crazy good buzz on your book. Cool!
    I read Rob Lowe's first memoir and it was quite good - humble bragging on his part but I think he's very aware of his ups and downs. And yes - damn good looking.
    Oh Mariah - she's spacey.... but she can sing!
    Shania - she's over and can just live a nice life.
    Read Billie Jean King's memoir - now that's a star and a good writer too.
    Cheers my friend
    1. Based on the reviews too, Joanne, Rob Lowe's memoir was well received. Billie Jean King's an interesting person, good to know she published a solid memoir.
      Thanks for all your support, Joanne.
      Be well.
  9. I've always have issues with reading celebrity memoirs, because sometimes they're ghostwritten quite poorly (at least, I believe the majority of them are ghostwritten), mostly do to trying to keep the person's speaking voice the same for the written word.
    To be honest, I would rather reads a good bio of the person (if alive, with their cooperation but not final approval) than a ghostwritten memoir.
    1. I agree, GB. Good point. When I know that they wrote their own bio, I'm much more impressed.
