I'm very lucky to have recently crossed the (CA-Nevada) border into the Lake Tahoe region.
Nevada had just issued an order to wear masks, yet Harrah's Casino was set to reopen.
Oy vey. The inconsistent protocols between any two states, systems, or people -- it's among the most anxiety inducing aspects of the COVID19. Do you agree?
Regardless, may you and your loved ones be spared of COVID's merciless wrath.
I'd say approximately one-third of the folks in Tahoe were wearing masks, except the more famous ones like Betty Boop and...Elvis? That's the worst fake Elvis I've ever seen.
It wasn't the smartest thing for me to do, taking a trip to such a popular hot spot. But it was my Birthday weekend. I sheltered alone, and I wore a mask when near anyone (except Betty Boop and...Elvis? Is that you?). I used a lot of Purell too.
To ease my mind, I got tested upon return.
I've never been so happy to fail a test in my life. Yet we're far from out-of-the woods. So we shall and must persevere.
This woodsey-beachy excursion helped me get some mojo back.
Please take care of yourselves.
Be safe and healthy, my dears.
Elivs??

it is still a beautiful world."

I have a good friend who lives in Berkeley that i used to see every summer when I'd come out...and we spend moat of the time there San Fran and Sausalito. And then a day trip or two. One year we did Lake Tahoe....its stunning!!! It's good to get away in these times if it can be safely done.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, Mistress. The Bay Area is beautiful too. It's only a couple hours from me, and I can't ever get too much of the ocean air. I can, however, easily get too much of the traffic, parking hassles, crowds...none of this a prob for me in Tahoe.
DeleteThank you.xo
Hi, Robyn!
ReplyDeleteThose lines from Desiderata jumped out at me before you revealed the source at the end. I'm sure you must remember the hit record by Les Crane in which he recites the famous poem. The single reached the top 10 during Christmas season in 1971.
I'm happy to learn about your getaway to Lake Tahoe and I'm glad you took precautions. Thanks for showing us pics of a smiling you posing with Elvis the Pelvis and Betty Boop and the beautiful lake area and beach. Seems like this trip energized you, and that makes me happy.
Have a safe and healthy week, dear friend Robyn!
Thank you, Dear Shady. No, I didn't know about Les Crane. You teach me something new every time. Thank you. I shall find that song.
DeleteWhat timing for this - re Elvis. It's incredibly sad about his grandson, who was very much his likeness.
You be safe and well yourself, Shady. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Glad you went for it and had a good time. And if you want to take a real risk, come to my work. One office building. Over a hundred of us. No one wears masks. I feel safer when I go to the gym than I do going to work!
ReplyDeleteI can't fathom people taking no precautions whatsoever, Alex. We all know of people (hundreds of thousands) who've died. Do they simply ignore this? I guess so. Please stay safe and healthy. We need you to.
DeleteI am glad (so very glad) that you got away AND failed that test on your return. Keep failing I say (a new experience to treasure).
ReplyDeleteBelated Birthday wishes are flowing your way too.
DeleteThank you so much, sweet lady.
DeleteTake good care.
Happy Birthday Robyn! So glad you could enjoy Tahoe. It was a favorite escape when I was younger --clarity and challenging chill of the water, the thrill of a whirlpool possibly sucking me down to the center of the earth --where I could rule over the Morlocks (see H.G Wells) and make them behave. But now I do better at sea level (20% more O2) and pack a supplement when I cross the Sierras.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Geo. I'm too wimpy to actually swim in the water, Geo. Wading is excitement enough for me. I did make a fire, though. A manageable one that I put out, too. On a charcoal grill, and my dinner was yummy that night. Still, I don't need to do that again. Lounging at sea level and taking it all in, that's good enough, with chocolate as my supplement. =)
DeleteCheers.
Happy birthday! Looks like you were outside for most of it, so you were good. Read an article on visiting Universal right now and it's very, very tempting since they sanitize like crazy and hardly anyone's in the parks.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, Diane. Disney is packing the crowds, naturally. Sigh.
DeleteThank you.
Stay safe and well over there.
Tahoe is SO pretty - I'm sure you enjoyed breathing in that fresh air (thru the mask). You deserved it and happy belated birthday my friend. Betty Boop's not nothing on you!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Joanne. Betty Boop is more tall and buxom, but we did fine together for that photo. In fact, she didn't notice. She's been eyeing Elvis that whole time.
DeleteCheers to you, my friend.
Happy birthday! I think it is okay to take some risk if you are doing it as safe as you can.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bathwater.
DeleteHappy Birthday! Glad you had a nice little getaway to celebrate!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debra! I appreciate it.
DeleteCute pictures! Sounds like you had a fun getaway for your birthday.
ReplyDeleteIt was very enjoyable.
DeleteThanks, Connie.
Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it, RR.
DeleteLove the pics! Betty Boop FTW!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jemi. Best is the best!
DeleteHi Robyn, sorry it's taken me so long to get around to visiting - my blog is back, and I'm trying to recall all the people I used to visit. I saw your lovely words on Joanne Faries blog, and knew it was time!
ReplyDeleteYou talk about inconsistent protocols between states, we've got them between our own government protocols. At one point, I could have a cleaner in my house, but not my own parents!
Apart from the bizarre world we're living in, I hope you're well!
Hi, Annalisa,
DeleteIt's great to see and hear from you. Thank you for visiting. I know - it seems like it's opposite day every day now, right? I guess we missed the memo. Insanity.
I hope you're well too.
Take good care.
