Chocolate Bacon Bar! The Latest in Chocolate

Mos' Milk Chocolate Bar with hickory smoked bacon Vosges Haut Chocolate

I found this scrumptious dark thing at Raley's/Nob Hill Foods. It cost $5 - about the same price as a cup of coffee at Starbuck's. It's worth it (the chocolate, not the coffee).

Katrina, creator of this delicacy, states, "Breathe...Engage your 5 senses, close your eyes and inhale deeply...Rub your thumb over the chocolate bar the release the aromas...flirting with deep milk chocolate...let the lust of salt and sweet coat your tongue." Who needs soft porn, when you can read the backs of chocolate bacon bars?!

The flavors blend nicely in this mixture of sweet cocoa and smokey salty bacon. I was a tad disappointed, though, that it was skinny. Something so caloric should not be slender, but I guess it wouldn't have fit into the box if it were fatter.  And I guess I just want more!

Next time, though, I'll get the dark chocolate version. That one's more intense and even yummier - though I generally prefer milk chocolate. [I'm pretty sure Byron of ABFtS agrees that the dark chocolate one's amazing. He won it in a contest I hosted months ago.]

All in all, I'm happily sated. I give this special treat an 8.

Ever tried the bacon chocolate combo?

What do you think?

Have a sweet Friday and weekend!

  2. As a vegetarian I'm going to skip this one :)

  3. That's on the back of the bar? I'm eating all the wrong foods!

  4. Two things I can't eat unfortunately. Maybe veggie bacon wrapped in butterscotch?

  5. I think it's definitely not kosher for Jews and gorillas. Has anyone tried chocolate pork scratchings?

  6. I think I'll skip it too. I like bacon once in awhile but overall, I don't eat it. Turkey bacon is what I buy when I get a hankerin. And although my guy loves meat, he hates bacon!

  7. Too funny. I am not a bacon fan, and I would hate to find it in my chocolate, but that description. . . it would be enough to get me to give it a try.

  8. I've heard good things about bacon and chocolate, but I just don't know. Although I used to eat pancakes with bacon and dip my bacon in the syrup and that was good. Sweet and salty. Maybe I will have to give it a go.

  9. Bacon and chocolate make everything taste better. Combine the two, I bet it's a taste explosion! Sounds very good, but on so fattening lol.

  10. Bacon is making it's way into everything these days. I love the taste of bacon and chocolate, so I imagine I would find it good. But...I don't know that I would seek it out. I still keep a stash of good chocolate truffles for my occasional cheat.

  11. I'd totally try this out! I remember buying a chocolate bar with orange pieces once and thinking "What am I getting myself into?" But it was awesome! Eat a bacon chocolate bar for me and have a great weekend! :-)

  12. Not many takers, huh? That's alright. It's already gone.

I'm going away this weekend, so forgive me for not doing the circuit. I'll be back around soon.

    Have a great weekend.

    Bless you!

  14. I'm a purist, not a fan of flavored chocolate. I was one of those 'don't mix my food together' kids.

  15. I'm not sure if I'd like this Robyn but the fact that you like it is a good sign, it might be amazing!

  16. I'm a dark chocolate.. whore. There I said it. I love dark chocolate. With bacon? OK I'd be willing to give it a try. Sounds kinda risky though.. Ooo!

  17. Even though I'm not as crazy for bacon as most folks, I'd give this a try. Have a terrific weekend.

  20. Hey Robyn,

I would like a BLC, please. Sometimes, the weirdest combinations work. Although, it didn't work with my now ex wife, but that's another story.

"Gary?" Yes? "What's a BLC?" A Bacon, Lettuce and Chocolate sandwich, of course.

Take care and have a chocolaty weekend, with or without bacon....

    Gary :) x

  21. I have seen a lot of things made with bacon lately. I just don't know if I would want to ruin my chocolate with bacon.

  22. Okay, I have to draw the line with bacon and chocolate. I love them both. But, do not combine them in any way, shape, or form.

They are meant to be kept separate and that's just the way the universe has been set up.

  23. I've never eaten one myself, but I bought one for Hubby cause he has this thing with Bacon. He really liked it, so it must be pretty awesome!!

  24. I have never tried a chocolate/bacon combo. I've had dark chocolate with chili peppers which is good. But bacon . . . . saving that for an extra special occasion.

  25. The blurb on the back should be the advertising campaign.

My brother will be an addict if he gets his hands on one of these :)

  26. I've never heard of this, but it sounds interesting. I'd probably give it a try. :)

  27. who needs soft porn when you can read the backs of chocolate bars - well said Robyn - but you know the idea of a bacon chocolate bar makes me heave a bit xo

Take your word for it Robyn. haha

  29. I love bacon, a lot. However, I don't want to taste it with my candy or chocolate or any other food that isn't essentially, bacon. :)

  30. Ha! First thing I thought was "Wait, I've eaten this before. You've sent it to me."

I have a stomach that never forgets. People? Yeah, I forget those sometimes. But I never forget a good chocolate.

The dark chocolate and the bacon was an amazing combination, and I'm just sad I can't find it anywhere around here. :(

  31. I love bacon and I love chocolate, but this I have not yet tried. Haven't seen them anywhere. On my budget I stick to Hershey bars when they're on sale.

  32. Robyn,
Never heard of Bacon-flavoured chocolate. Now I'm curious to know what that tastes like.

  33. Though it doesn't sound too appetizing, I'd probably like it. The problem is that I already have too many chocolate addictions, so I better stay away from this one.
