Welcome to Bidwell Park, Sundays in My City

Hi. Thanks for dropping by. I spent my afternoon here at Chico's Bidwell Park where I soaked up some sun and waded in the pool. One kid climbed a tree (the tree cut off along the left edge of this second photo). With lots of long, twisty branches, he chose a good one to navigate. But the lifeguard reprimanded the boy for "not respecting Chico." That was rather harsh and dramatic. Wouldn't you say? I thought trees were meant to be climbed by kids...Only in Chico, I suppose. The boy then took to splashing in the water, so all's well.

Visit amazing around-the-world photos for Sunday in My City, hosted by the extraordinary UnknownMami.

Hope it was a great weekend..
Stay cool! xo Robyn

  1. Oh my goodness... is that one of those shirts with a body on it?

  2. You have great vision, Ms.A. YES. In fact, that's why I took the picture. But I didn't think anyone would notice since I can't really see it in the posted photo.
    Cheers. xo

  4. this looks like a lovely place to visit for the day, I am sure... as for the tree climbing reprimand? DC issues the same. The trees are better protected than some of the people and monuments, especially when the Cherry blossoms bloom

  8. Nice park. Glad you enjoyed your afternoon in your local park.

This is the first time I heard of someone being reprimanded for climbing a tree. Sad it has come to the place kids are not allowed to climb a tree.

  14. I think I heard that "not respecting Chico" line once from an old boyfriend when I was trying to climb him.

Evan (my 18 year old bound for Sonoma State in August) now regrets not applying to Chico and wants to transfer there in a year or so. If he does you will be in charge of watching out for him. Prepare yourself, woman.

  15. What a lovely way to spend the day Robyn !

I think "respecting Chico" has to do with insurance and possible lawsuits due to accidents/injuries. I am so glad in my time climbing trees was not only fun but encouraged by adults !

  16. I thought lifeguards were supposed to watch the water not the trees?

  17. Let kids be kids and just watch the safety of them, lifeguard!

  18. OT, thank goodness. How strange, but I'm glad it kicked in for ya.

Betty, I'm on it already. Chico is a nice school with some high quality programs. Don't be scared by it's party reputation. I'll watch him at all the parties.

Thank you for agreeing about tree-climbing. It used to be one of life's greatest pleasures when I was a kid.

    Have a great week, friends.

  24. What? The kid wasn't allowed to climb a mature tree?!! That's absurd. That park does look like a nice place to spend an afternoon, though!

  29. Hola Chica :)
I love seeing your city! Goodness, Chico is one strict ombre! Let the kid climb, he'll just fall in water, he he!

  32. That looks nice. Id swim in that. The man was probably doing his job. Kids fall out of trees and hurt themselves and they prob dont want a lawsuit on their hands. This is the problem with the world now. I practically lived up a tree as a kid. I often preferred it to my house...

    ;)

  33. Thanks, sweet bloggy friends.

I loved passing the time on our backyard tree branches. I recently visited the house I grew up in and was sad the tree was no longer there.
