My Dear Sillies,
We're at the beginning of a new year for the Jewish people. This year we turn 5,785. Yeah, we're old. "Shanah Tova" means "Happy new year!" Traditionally, we dip apple slices in honey to begin the year with sweetness. You might also notice round challah bread in select stores. It's the absolute best.
Last weekend, I drove to Lake Tahoe, which graces the CA-Nevada border. Such a wonderful getaway. Here are a few photos.
Despite the fact that it's North America's biggest alpine lake, I got lost trying to find the Lake. Yet the universe dropped this sign when I needed one. You might've heard my loud chuckle at that moment, as I excitedly pulled into the parking lot. A very kind old woman in this chocolate shop drew a map with detailed directions to Lake Tahoe. And naturally, I bought myself a very sweet unhealthy breakfast. (Chocolate pecans, chocolate graham cracker, and caramels). Mm, so good!
Aw, serenity. Such a blissful getaway.
Shana Tova, Robyn. May it be a great year. The bird is a European Starling, introduced and widespread in North America.
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you David. It's a unique bird, very friendly (while I was eating). Great to know it's name.
DeleteShanah Tova!
I'd eat all of that!
ReplyDeleteA great place to get away to. I visited Lake Tahoe has a kid but don't remember much.
A most gorgeous place to visit, Alex. I'm glad you saw it as a kid. Perhaps you'll re-visit with your wife sometime.
DeleteHappy New Year and I'll have to try some honey and apples. Somewhere I remember reading that rabbis would place a drop of honey on the tongues of students to teach them the sweetness of God's word. And Tahoe, I've been there many times and love it. I see you had no problem finding the chocolate outlet. :)
ReplyDeleteChocolate first, Lake Tahoe second, Jeff.
DeleteThank you.
Almost 6000 years, just like the Bible says.
ReplyDeleteSweet potato fries are the best!
Yum yum. Have you had sweet potato tots, Diane?
DeleteYeah... I might have done the same thing in the chocolate shop. That's a hard temptation to resist.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! And can you believe it...I was in Lake Tahoe in the second week of September too! My first time there.
