Black is Beautiful!

Dear Sillies,
I've been a bit caught up in the historic uprising. Despite how I come across, and despite my love for Chico, its police department is strongly rooted in racist ideology. Our greater community also has a hateful, ignorant, old school (white privileged) undercurrent.
Three years ago, a young Black man, Desmond Phillips, was shot and killed when his father reached out for police support in the midst of Desmond's mental health crisis. Three years later, justice for Desmond
has yet to be served. This is far from the only similar local incident of police brutality.
   From our protest last Friday:

Love you!

  1. Sadly, our own police force is similarly culpable. I was totally infuriated (incandescent with rage) when our Prime Monster described the 'Black Lives Matter' protests here as importing another countries problem.

    1. Wow. So much for evolution. So sorry to learn that, EC. Some people will never wake up. )=

Take care of your fire-y heart and spirit.

    2. Thought I should word that differently.
Yes, since the beginning of humankind, really.

      Thank you, Debra.

  3. Black Lives Matter. I truly hope George Floyd's name does not disappear from the history books. Things feel different this time - I truly hope a change occurs. Hope....and action.

  4. Sad to hear about Desmond's death and I can't image the guilt his father experiences. Police Dept have a hard time dealing with mental health issues and adding lethal force always ups the possibility of violence when dealing with those who are struggling mentally.

    1. It's very sad all around, especially because the people who should feel guilt, aren't.

      Thanks.
      Take care, Jeff.

Canada has a lot fewer problems but of course, it has its ugliness too.

      Stay safe and be well.

  6. So much sadness and so much hate. None of it makes sense to me.

    1. Yes, I keep coming back to that. It makes no sense. The core of hate is delusion and ignorance.

      Thank you.
      Take care, Connie.

  8. As Connie says above: "None of it makes sense to me."
You can say THAT again. Why so many prejudge others of the same race (homo sapiens) by ethnicity and phenotype is a dangerous enigma, by which I confess myself baffled.

    1. You always give food for thought - we are of the same race, homo sapiens. Thank you, Geo.

      One rainbow tribe.
      Love to you.

  9. As I said to EC above, it's disheartening and so sad. There is so much hate, so much. I've seen first hand how the true colors (pun intended totally) of people come out in times such as these. I know there is a light a the end of this tunnel. I pray that George Floyd's death was not in vain. I pray that as a result of his death that this movement that is taking place all over the world continue to develop, continue to evolve. We HAVE to be BETTER. We HAVE to be!

  10. Hi, Robyn!

Thank you very much for joining the fun at Shady's Place today, my new friend! I just finished signing on the dotted line to become your newest follower aka one of your "Sillies."

I admire you for posting that introductory video and revealing so much about yourself. Moreover it comes as a great relief to meet someone in the blogging community with whom I am politically aligned. I've been a blogger close to twelve years and haven't met very many like minded people. I join other readers in hoping that Mr. Floyd's death and legacy will not fade from memory as the election cycle heats up and the COVID crisis and other breaking news grabs headlines. I hope this time a wave, a tsunami, has been set in motion that will carry through November bringing sweeping change and restoring dignity to the office of the President of the United States of America.

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

That day is long, long overdue. America, we're better than this.

I love where your head is at and where your heart is at, Robyn. It is a pleasure to add you as a new friend. Take care and enjoy the rest of your week, Robyn!

    1. Dear Shady,
You're a gem. It's wonderful to meet you. I only wish I'd done so sooner, but it's timely too. It's hard to keep discovering the non-like-minded in this world and niche. I lost a follower, even, with this post. Who would have a problem with "Black is Beautiful" and BLM? Apparently, many do. How disheartening. And then we meet people with the same ideology - and they're creative, witty, feisty, spunky, and new Sillies. Love and gratitude, Shady.
