Allow me to introduce you to Dark Chocolate Edamame ala Trader Joe's. Have you tried this? Of all the delicious looking chocolaty products in this socially conscious countrywide market - they don't sell Hershey's, only fair-trade chocolate - I chose this one. I thought I wouldn't like it and it would simply make for an interesting review. I mean, I like edamame...with salt. And we know I like chocolate enough to marry it. But the combination just seems wrong. For your benefit, though, I ate some. And then some more. I really like it. The container was empty within two days.
You can taste the bean (Note: edamame, as I learned today, is an "immature soybean") but the chocolate is a bit more powerful. Thus, the combination is actually a really good one. It's slightly salty, a tad sweet, and interestingly flavorful. Plus, this snack provides 7g of protein per serving, less sugar and fat than most desserts, and dark chocolate is very healthy (compared to milk chocolate).
All things considered, I give Trader Joe's dark chocolate edamame a 9 out of 10.
Healthy, fair-trade chocolate to all!
An immature soybean? Does that mean it plays "pull my finger" or makes fart noises in its armpits during church?
ReplyDeleteOh, wait. Soybeans don't have armpits. Or fingers.
My bad.
I don't know Al. I thought that was a funny Wiki definition too. I think it hasn't quite reached puberty.

Trader Joe's has some of the coolest stuff.
ReplyDeleteOn your recommendation, I'll definitely give this a try. One can't have enough chocolate experiences as far as I'm concerned,
ReplyDeleteI suspect this delicacy is far healthier than the chocolate marshmallow Santa Claus treats I’ve been devouring of late. (Russell Stover’s, not Hershey’s.)
ReplyDeleteI’ll check if it’s available in Canada.
Hope you’ve stocked up for the weekend!
So, an immature soybean doesn't have h....oh, never mind. Too many disturbing mental images.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds so delicious to me Robyn, I'm not a huge dark chocolate fan but this sounds awesome! :D
ReplyDeletehahaha the immature soybean crack was great. One has to wonder why they'd use such a description.
ReplyDeleteWhy mess with perfectly good chocolate? Oh, well, perhaps it's good, who am I to judge... I eat fries with my hot fudge sundae.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think puberty was highly overrated. I haven't been the same since reaching it!
Well, I give you a 10 out of 10 for this most informative post! I'm off to Trader Joe's to get some of that treat to keep in my golf bag!!

Alex, I agree.
ReplyDeleteStephen, let me know how you like them.
Beth, marshmallow Santas are pretty darn good too. I hope you'll have plenty on your getaway.
Al, factoring in the mental images, I'd much prefer devouring an immature vs fully developed soybean. Wouldn't you?
Yeamie, I'm not much of a dark chocolate fan either. But these are good.
MsA, I thought I was the only one who did the fries-hot fudge mix. It's the ideal comfort combo.
Judie, thanks for the great score. May Santa fill your golf bag with lots of chocolate goodness.
I only eat dark chocolate, so this is a product that has my blessing! Does the packet tell you what the cocoa percentage is, Robyn?
ReplyDeleteThey sound interesting, but probably not something I'll find in UK.
ReplyDeleteOMG! I first read this as Chocolate Enema.. haha.. I thought, Robyn has taken this too far now!!!
ReplyDeleteOn second thoughts... maybe it would sell? Off to try it...
:P
I have a daughter who would absolutely love this - me Not so much.
ReplyDeleteI just had some of these!! And I completely agree--doesn't seem like it would be good, but oh, it is!
ReplyDeleteWe don't have a Trader Joes (sad) and I am allergic to soy (major pain in the butt ... it's everywhere) but that dark chocolate and I ... we could be friends!
ReplyDeleteI'm up for trying most things once. So I would try this, but I don't love dark chocolate, so I make no promises.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a trip to Trader Joe's is in order!
ReplyDeleteI would prolly try this, but it doesn't sound appealing to me at all. I, like you, enjoy edamame with salt...just had some for dinner. Now that you say you like it, I may have to try it. So thanks!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend, my friend!!
lol that dont sound like the dark chocolate i enjoy
ReplyDeleteJust got back from Trader Joe's and me and Mrs. Chatterbox are halfway through our first batch of dark chocolate Edamame. This stuff is f*^%#*g great. Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteStephen, I am SO GLAD you like it. I got a bit nervous having made this recommendation because I tend to love anything with chocolate. I'm not a great judge. Thanks for affirming my opinion.
ReplyDeleteJulie, see above. Yay! I'm so glad you like them too. They are addicting, aren't they?
Jerzey and Dawn, I didn't think I'd like it either. Give it a try. Tell 'em I sent you.
Sarah, let me know what you think. Hope you're well. Miss ya.
BabySis, I'm not a dark chocolate fan either. At least, I wasn't before I tried this stuff.
Beth, thank goodness you aren't allergic to chocolate.
Terra, maybe a good protein filled dessert for your daughter..? Be well.
Anthony, that's too funny. I saw a skit on SNL (Sat. Night Live) mocking the Kardashians. They said they got discounted anal cleansings. Maybe a chocolate enema would sell, at least in that family.
Annalisa, I'm guessing you have much better chocolates to choose from in the UK.
GB, good question. I don't think so. I'll have to check next time. The package pictured above is long gone.
A sweet weekend to you all.
xoRobyn
There is no Trader Joe's in Germany :-((
ReplyDeleteSad for me!
Oh, this is just WRONG! You have a Trader Joe's and I don't...
ReplyDeleteOh, the days of shopping in Trader Joe's are but a past memory. I love the exotic goodies they carry!
Wish I could pick up one of those chocolate delights.....
Maybe Santa will bring me some, I have been very, very good! LOL!
Lisa
I guess I'll have to pick me up some chocolate soy the next time I am at the Joe's.
ReplyDeleteEdamame is gaining popularity everywhere. So now it's in chocolate too, huh? This, I might just have to try!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to add this to my list of chocolate raisins, dark chocolate peanut butter cups, and chocolate chip cookies. Trader Joe's will also let customers sample their products if requested. My dentist and dermatologist thank you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a concept! I might just have to look for some of those next time I am in a Trader Joe's. And here's to buying fair trade!!
ReplyDeletehaha, you crack me up like no other!
