Chocolate Covered Gummy Bears: The Latest in Chocolate

I was never much of a gummy bear fan. What about you?

I mean, it's fun dismembering them, and switching their body parts. But they're too chewy and get their little parts stuck between my teeth. Plus, they're not made of chocolate. Or so I thought, until I encountered these at Powell's Sweet Shoppe in Chico: chocolate covered gummy bears. I like the concept, kind of, though it struck me as a bit odd. I didn't think I'd like these bears, but I did. The dominant flavor is chocolate, with a tinge of fruitiness inside. They tasted just right, and they didn't get stuck between my teeth. I gobbled a handful in no time. I find these a lot more addicting than the non-chocolate covered gummy bears. Overall, I give these sweet cubs a 9. I can't tell you where to find them, though I'm sure you'll find them if you look hard enough. Otherwise, visit me in Chico, and I'll take you to them. Then, we'll have some of Powell's delectable gelato.

Powell's didn't offer me any treats in exchange for this review, though I wish they would.

Have a sweet weekend.

  2. Yummy! Around our kitchen, the motto is anything tastes better dipped in chocolate. Plus, I love gummy bears, but don't eat anything that sticks to my teeth anymore. Not since I pulled out a crown with a lolly.

  3. I never liked gummy bears either. Thought it was something like chewing sweetened rubber. And yeah, there's the tooth thingy too.

  4. If they don't stick to your teeth I might give them a go. After all, you did say they're covered in chocolate!

  5. I've never heard of those, but I'm open to anything with chocolate! I agree about chocolate w/fruit. I've eaten dark choc with bits of orange in it, and it was scrumptious!

  6. I'm with you on gummy bears Robyn, I've never really enjoyed them because of how chewy the traditional ones are. These might be nice though, has to be worth a shot at least!

  11. You present a compelling argument to try these otherwise oddly matched treats. I think I best come over with more chocolate and we should set up a lab type atmosphere and eat chocolate until a determination is made, ranking their deliciousness on a comparative scale. Someone has to do it-- in the name of science!

  18. I actually love gummy bears! However, the thought of covering them in chocolate just doesn't sound right to me. But, hey, if you say they are good, I believe you!

  19. I've never been much of a gummy bear fan, but I bet if they were chocolate-covered I would eat them. They sound like they would taste the way chocolate covered gum drops like you find in bridge mix would taste.

  20. I've always liked the gummy varieties...bears, worms, and the sour patch kids who are sour, then sweet, like a yeast infection. :) I can't believe I said that.

I think I'd like the chocobears. Choco in Chico! I'll have to pay you a visit one of these days.

  22. Okay, I'm not exaggerating when I saw that chocolate covered gummi bears is one of my favorite candies. I worked in a gourmet candy store all through high school and learned about these treats. They're an acquired taste for sure. Now whenever we're at the airport (which isn't often as I have four little kids and hardly go anywhere) I buy a little bag of these guys at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory store. It's my travel treat. It always takes me back. . . such a specific flavor that it's hard to describe.

  23. I hate Gummy Bears or any other "gummy" candies. Covering them with chocolate is simply a waste of chocolate...
