The Latest in Chocolate: Chocolate Cream Cheese

This one recently hit Safeway's dairy shelves: Kraft Philadelphia Indulgence, dark chocolate cream cheese made with real Belgium chocolate. Having just spooned the last of it, I can assure you it's yummy - sweet, rich, chocolaty, and similar to Nutella. Between the two, though, I'd stick with Nutella. It's lighter and works better as a spread.

A spoonful of Indulgence makes for a tasty mini-dessert. It's creamy but not cream-cheesy, and so chocolaty it will drown out the taste of whatever you eat it with. This isn't a complaint, coming from me. I just wish to properly inform those of you who aren't as addicted to cocoa as I am.

Healthy it's not, at 20% saturated fat and only 2% calcium. Of course, that's not why I was anxious to try, and keep trying this one. And I still highly recommend it for the "Yum" factor alone.

I give Kraft Philadelphia Chocolate Cream Cheese Spread an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. Go Indulge (say, on a cracker, bread, or plain bagel). Let me know what you think.

  1. If I weren't so chubby I'd run to the store to grab some of this. I'm beginning to wonder if you're evil. Ha!

  2. I bet those two items taste great together! Yes, spread thin on those crackers.

  3. Stephen, you're very kind to be "beginning to wonder." Three years of blogging at Life by Chocolate and I have finally determined that, yes, I am evil.

Alex, yes, I think you'd enjoy indulging. Thanks.

  4. This sounds amazing Robyn, honestly I can't see how cream cheese would work well with chocolate yet for some reason it sounds really good to me, I actually want to try it out!

  5. Meh!

Now if it was dark chocolate ...that would be evil

  6. In the UK it's Cadbury's Dairy Milk chocolate. Neither sounds appetising, even though I love chocolate cheesecake, and it technically should be the same thing!

  7. Not dark enough for me, Robyn. Black is beautiful and better for the health. Especially with fruit and nuts.

  8. Hmmm to me that does not look very appealing, of course being a picky eater, that comes with the territory..haha

  9. A spoonful of indulgence??!! Like that’s ever gonna happen! True addicts never stop at a spoonful.
This is just terrible – I finally finished that bag of “healthy” chocolates and now here’s a new thing I have to try!

  10. YM, it IS pretty good, but now I have a tummy ache.

IT and GB, it's billed as "dark chocolate." Maybe it doesn't quite work because the dark-chocolate-milk/cheese combo doesn't. ? I may need to try more to figure it out.

Annalisa, I agree. See above; dark chocolate & milk chocolate aren't the same and perhaps shouldn't be confused this way.

Pat, I understand. Or can pretend to. =)

Beth, we're always on the same page. Thanks and I'm sorry.

  14. Why are you tempting me to try this?? It looks and sounds so good, yet I must resist. Robyn, you may have my "dessert spoonful".

  15. I knew by the title I should not have come here. I want some NOW. And, yes you are evil.

  17. That stuff sounds like pure evil. Like the chocolate graham crackers I used to buy. Addictive, I tell you! (Especially with peanut butter...)I believe I'll pass on the chocolate cream cheese. For now.

  18. Is it like chocolate cheesecake? I make that and it is good.

  19. Hi Ruth, it's not as good as chocolate cheese cake. Sounds strange coming from me, but it's a bit too rich I think.

Susan, mm, chocolate graham crackers with peanut butter - pure evil. This too. Thanks for dropping by.

Joanne, if you do hunt this down, let me know what you think. =)

    Faraways, LOL. Please forgive me.

Chuck, aw, thanks. I already ate your spoonful (and that of many others).

Jemi, yes, it's pretty good. Glad to "see" you. Thanks.

MsA, let me know if you do.

Nezzy, sweet blessings back to you, my friend in the Ozarks.

Joe, you have a point. Since you're not tempted, it's best to bypass this one - more for the rest of us. Thanks for dropping by.

  20. I have this in my fridge right now! It's pretty good on a toasted bagel.

  21. I'm conflicted about trying this. I like Nutella but it can be a tad bitter. I like cream cheese (a LOT) but I have issues with making it sweet, like with fruits and other things Kraft has done.
Then I'm thinking "and what would I put it on?" because... I can't decide between cupcakes or a graham cracker or a spoon.
I will wait til after the wedding since I am trying to lose weight LOL

  22. Oh good gravy!! This looks amazing!! I must try some...

  23. I looked at a package of this in the store tonight and actually left it on the shelf. (Horrors! I know.) I just couldn't imagine it on my Cinnamon Raisin Bagels. Maybe I should have grabbed a package of plain ones.

  25. MUST. HAVE. NOW.

    I'm thinking with pound cake...

  26. Don't get it here. :( crying buckets now and flooding my tiny bedroom....
But I do get Cadbury Dairy milk which Annalisa says is the same. Wiping away tears, feeling better already, time to hit the store.

  27. Julie, yes, with a toasted bagel - good choice. I'm glad you're enjoying it.

Miley, you'll having to indulge once you're married.

BabySis, "good gravy" is a cute expression. Never heard that before. If you find and try it, let me know.

Beth, yeah, I think too many flavors would be overwhelming - even for us choco-fanatics. You're a wise and strong woman.

Anne, thanks so much and back to you.

    Laughingmom, mm, poundcake? Good idea!

Rek, I was guilty for a moment. Thank goodness Cadbury saved the day.

    A sweet weekend to all.

  32. I'm also a chocolate-lover. I go to the library and get the cookbooks on chocolate all the time. I'll have to go looking for the choc-cream cheese.
