Now, Go Away Hurricane Irene!

Hi dear friends,
I wasn't (yet) moved by today's Saturday Centus prompt, though it's a good one. I'm just a bit distracted with concern for those of you in harm's way. This poem is dedicated to all who are or may be affected by Hurricane Irene. Please stay safe!

NOW

We don’t know why

We don’t know how

All we know is what is now.

Now is breath and hope and life.

Now is poised to meet the strife.

In now resides all that we need

To face the tides ‘til storms recede.

A glass half empty’s just as full.

The heart lifts more than sorrow’s toll.

We don’t know why

We don’t know how

All we know is what is now.

PS Also, get the hell out of there if you are in harm's way! I love you and am sending positive thoughts and calm weather from Northern CA.

  3. It is strange how grief and loss can lead to gratitude and bringing us close to each other and what really matters in life. Worn out cliche but as they say, "Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift that is why it is called the present." Thanks for your beautiful and inspiring words.

  5. There's something very Buddhist about that poem. I hope the basement will be a safe place for those who can't run away.

  7. Very nice! We were lucky - just a little wind and rain, as it didn't come as far inland as expected.

  8. Thanks, all.

So glad it's been downgraded to a Tropical Storm. Where were all the warnings pre-Katrina, Japan's tsunamis, etc. ?

Still sending good thoughts and calm weather to the East.

    Be safe, everyone.

  12. "Now is breath and hope and life."
Wow. Gave me chills! Stay safe, Robin. I felt the aftershocks of the earthquake clear in Columbus, Ohio, on the 25th floor of my high-rise. Scary shizzle, fo sho'.

  13. I think your poem was one of the many psychic boots in the butt that sent Irene away! It does good to hate on a hurricane. Sounds as though even New York came out of it with no deaths. And on TV there was an indelible image of Australian firemen who happened to be visiting, ignoring all orders to go inside and hunker down and instead hilariously body-surfing in New York's flooded streets. Well, whaddayagonnado? They're Australians!

  14. That was beautiful! NC did get hit pretty hard by Irene, but I sought refuge in Ohio for the weekend.

  15. That is a beautiful poem.

I was fortunate enough to not have any friends terribly affected by the hurricane. I had a couple friends in NYC and Virginia who had power outages, but that's about it...

The photos of the damage online though are frightful.

  16. I'm mad at Irene because she knocked out the internet so I couldn't blog. What a bitch.

Stay safe, everyone, and thanks so much for stopping by.

  18. Very good Robyn!
This is now a few days later, and things seem to not have gotten as bad as first thought. I'll take my earthquakes anyday...

  19. Hey girl! Missed ya while I was gone! Love your little ditty! We're safe and sound. She blew through here and left a mess in her wake, but we're relatively unscathed. (Can't really complain about a ten hour power outage when so many are in much worse shape!)

  20. You're right, Marlene and Pat. Those of us removed from it all can't complain. I'll take the CA earthquakes too.

A wedding party in Vermont is stuck at the wedding site for 4 days until they repair the roads. I hope it was a multi-multi-layered cake to get them through. Thank goodness it wasn't worse.

    Stay safe, people.

  22. Beautiful Robyn, and so thoughtful of you...I wasn't in harm's way really, but I was in Daytona and the beach was shut down when the storm was blowing past, that was scary enough. It certainly made me realize what the rest of the coast was in for.
