Saluting John Hancock

Sorry, Friends.

Rest assured, though, the image could be worse. I tried to enhance it to its original size, and - wow! - that was way too big!
Wherever you live, whatever your politics, may you appreciate all that inspires you to drop to your knees.
Love ya.

    1. Yeah, and none of those little sparklers - only the big explosive kind will do.

    1. Someone's enjoying them, and it's not Martha Stewart. Or is it?

  8. Over forty years ago, I was working at a grocery store, and the receiver told one of the delivery men to sign a list of vendors by saying "Put your John Hancock here." Trying to be clever, the vendor decided to write "John Hancock" rather than his own name, but he wrote "John Handcock," and I'm convinced he did not realize his mistake... although it would have been a bit clever if he had.

    1. Yes, even more funny had he known. Do you think John Hancock was glorified, mocked, or both for his name? I do wonder, Silver.

    2. That's a good question. A little research shows me that "cock" has had an off-color alternative meaning since the 1600s if not earlier, and that's well before Hancock's time. I can definitely see him being teased by children, who can be vicious.
