Resolution Rap

Sorry to those of you who saw this photo and/or poem already (on facebook and/or in years past). I'm reposting for old time's sake (that is, because I don't have anything else ready). Have a wonderfully resolution-free 2014.

Photo by my friend, Rita Scott, posted without Spice Girl Dope's permission. [Dope was trying to get her Robyn on. I know, right?]

Resolution schmezolution

A year defined by destitution

Across the globe we witnessed strife

When will we learn to cherish life?

The i’s not capped with Pod or Pad

And dieting just drives us mad

We reach for more to sate the greed

When food and shelter’s all we need

So let’s be glad the year is gone

While we strive to mouth ye Auld Lang song

A new start is what the world needs

There’s just one thing I must concede:

I make no lists, for old time’s sake

And won’t scale down cocoa intake!

  1. If you scaled back the chocolate, you'd go through serious withdrawls!
You look really awesome in that photo, Robyn.

  6. Great photo Robyn! If you cut down on chocolate we wouldn't even be able to see you. Maybe you need to increase your chocolate covered fruit, and nuts. Another witty and wonderful poem! All the best in the New Year, Robyn!

  8. Cut down on cocoa?? That's a crime.
So, just to make sure this thing rhymes...
you may as well go slug a mime.
    Gotta flee, gotta go
Gotta get rid of that frikkin' snow.
    Then maybe...cocoa?

  10. Good poem! No New Year's resolutions for me. If I want to change something I won't wait until January 1 to do it.

  11. I had a good year, so I'm not glad it's gone or unhappy that's it gone. But I am super excited because 2014 ends in a four, and that's my most favorite number.

  12. Look at you all gangsta!

I missed this the first time around so I enjoyed the rhyme time.

  15. Lovely photo and poem. I feel such a pig - I've just finished a fourth box of chocolates. The trouble is that they're just to hard to resist!

  17. Ammi, I don't tend to eat menus, but I'll take your word for it that the Dominos menu tastes great. And do not use my blog for advertising ever again.

Thank you, all. I hope your first week of the new year is a great one. I'm not completely anti-resolution, only partially. I have some goals this year, but I tend to take my life one hour vs one year at a time.

    Love to you,
    xoRobyn

  19. Love the photo and the poem. Your poems are always awesome.

I love the idea of a new start for a better year. I will toast you with a hot cocoa on that. Cheers!

  20. Atta, you talking to me? Because I don't typically strive for relevance at Life by Chocolate. Mainly, I strive to evoke laughter, with an occasional prolific post. My team (Macaulay Culkin and I) will, however, graciously accept your "thumbing ovation".

Anthony, I thank you for commenting LAST year that this sounded like a rap. Thus, I made it one.

    Thank you, all.
    Be well.

  21. This is the first time I've seen this, Robyn, and I love it! Sounds good to me. I don't make resolutions either. Just take it one day at a time. Happy 2014!

  22. Hell, if I was as tiny as you, I'd keep the chocolate in daily rotation too!

No resolutions here either. I prefer to work on myself when I see a problem, not wait for a new year to start to have an excuse to wait longer.

    Happy New Years!

  23. Happy new years to you. I don't do resolutions, but I did scale back the chocolate a few months back. Maybe that's why I am cranky all the time. :)

  24. At this point, cutting down on chocolate might be dangerous! Don't ever try it "cold turkey."
    Nice poem and so true.
