Roses and Bad Signage

 Unknown Mami
Hi, friends.

I hope this finds you safe, well, and feeling fortunate that you're safe and well.

Thanks for visiting Chico, CA for Sundays in My City, hosted by the ever gracious Unknown Mami. To embark on a fascinating tour of bloggers' hometowns, go HERE.

  "What's in a name?
That which we call a rose

...by any other name would smell as sweet." - Romeo and Juliet

Now that you're relaxed, can you count the errors in this sign (You'll need to enlarge it.)? I can't. There are too many.

My favorite: "we reserve the right to refuse use at our discreation."
The historic bridge (Honeyrun Bridge in Chico, en route to Paradise)

Happy Sunday and new week.

  1. The sign writer needs to do some editing.

    I LOVE that covered bridge!

  2. Maybe you are paying a fee for insurance, you think?

  3. Beautiful photos of roses Robyn. They need to add another sign to explain the first one.

  4. I'm going to forgive the errors because a hand-written sign has a cute, childish charm to it. It's as if you're living in Toyland and the sign was written by Noddy.

  5. The bridge photo is really awesome! It looks like it would be a puzzle. A really tough one of course!

  6. Aww the sign is charming. :)
    Looks like a nice spot.

  7. Someone needs to go back to 5th grade, unless that's who it was written by, then it's okay.

  8. The rose pictures are beautiful. The bridge sign is hilarious.

  10. The historic ( or is it hysterical) bridge signage is charming, as another noted.

  17. The rose pictures are beautiful!!! So is the bridge. I am willing to forgive the sign writer any mistakes and would gladly pay the $3.00. That is an awesome old bridge.

  18. I love roses! They always make me smile. Someone needs to hire a better proof-reader!

  23. Bless their little signage hearts. I guess they didn't know how to google for spellage.

  28. Greetings human Robyn,

My human has some catching up to do with his commenting. So what does he do? Typical, he begs me to leave comments.

"Dogs will be allowed on a leash @ under 'controll' at all times". Arf!, for a moment I thought it was American English. A bridge with a historical sign full or errrors....

    Pawsitive wishes,

Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar! :)

  29. Thanks, all.

I suppose there's something endearing about the sign, though I really wished I had an erasermate on hand. I hope they'll spend the $3 I left for some tutoring.

    Ayala, my pleasure.

B&B, I didn't think "prospecting" was a word & was going to highlight that one, but I learned it is a word. Still, it's awfully strange that no "prospecting" (seeking minerals) is allowed within park boundaries. Minerals are everywhere, right?

    Ayala, my pleasure.

PTM, I think that's just "tough love."

Penny, they should've hired you to write that sign. You are pawsitively bright and adorable.

  30. "Swim at your own risk"--I'd almost be afraid to venture near the water, they've probably got the drowned corpses stacked up like cordwood. Yikes!

  31. I find it amazing how many errors there can be in signs put up for the public.

Recently they replaced some signs by a freeway on ramp by me. The signs SHOULD have read: No right turn on red:

    7 am - 9 am
    6 pm - 8 pm

    But instead they ALL say:

    7 pm - 9 pm
    6 pm - 8 pm

While not a misspelling error, exactly, how could anyone NOT look at that and realize it was wrong? Not in the sign factory, not the road crew putting them up? Still, we've got two shiny new signs there, and goodness knows in how many other places. SMH.

Love the roses - that yellow-pink variety is one of my favorites.

  32. Chico is such a great town. I love it. Thanks for the super pictures; I could almost smell those roses.

  33. Nice photos! The sign kind of gives a rural type item even a more country feel. Not that country folks don't spell very well, or anything like that.

  34. I am safe and well and thankful to be so!
I love the roses but they seriously need proof reader for the signs!

  35. Romeo and Juliet is a favorite play of mine. I love that quote. And what a dumb ass sign writer. Use a dictionary!

  36. Margaret, that's true and funny. Thanks, dear lady.

Bev, there go our tax dollars: into funding a sign designed by someone who doesn't know the difference between "a" and "p". Oy!

Lee, thanks. I do hope to stay. I like it here.

Pat, oh no, not at all. Wink.

Traci, I'm glad you're safe, well, and grateful. That covers the basics. Yes, a proofreader was sorely in order.

Melly, you always make me laugh. Thanks!

  39. Those roses are beautiful, so beautiful they almost make up for that horrible sign. Almost.
