Signs of the Great North, Sundays in My City

Unknown Mami hosts a picturesque world tour on Sundays. Visit some wonderful places through her blog.

Welcome to California's far North, where:

(1) Street signs cater to the visually impaired.

(2) One can find the infamous STUMPINATOR.
Note: The stumpinator serves to grind stumps. (I learned this from reading the sign.)

  (3) There is one sign of liberalism.

(4) A mini-quiz, just for fun: A white ladder enters the left edge of every photo. This is clearly caused by:
  (a) My scanner's decision to act weird
  (b) The fact that technology and I will never be best friends,
as further evidenced by continued problems with my post feeds
  (c)  I failed to stumpinate the images prior to posting
  (d)  All of the above

Thanks for visiting! Have a great Sunday and new week. xo Robyn

  1. Why did you use your scanner? If your photos are on your computer, there's no need to use the scanner. Also, once you have the images on the computer, you can crop them. Holler if I can help.

  2. Oh MsA, I'm so pathetic. BUT I DID just purchase a new digital camera. (To answer your question, I used my scanner because the photos aren't digital.) Thanks. I'll drop by soon. I could clearly use more guidance.
    Thanks Yvonne and MsA.

  3. Keep eating the chocolate and take serrapeptase for the tartar!

  4. Maybe your camera lens has a tiny strip of plastic on its edge. That field could do with a few horses and cows.

  5. The frozen great north - looks quirky

  6. I love northern CA and all it's quirks.

The ladder is put up by the invisible firemen who are telling you to go digital.

  7. I thought you were just being artsy with the ladders.

  8. lovely signs...maybe I can stump my bro with the knowledge of words beside Terminator.
Must have not positioned it properly on the scanner....
I have seen Bonn Ave in my hometown where not a single German resides...so there.

  9. Thanks for the formula (chocolate and serrapeptase), Rinkly!

GB, that field does need something besides a stumpinator.

Thanks Margg. Always great seeing you.

David, funny and quirky, it is. Gotta love it for the sake of weird photos.

BB, me too. The firemen who want to advise me are invisible? Drats. The good ones always are.

Thanks, OT and Sheila. Sheila, you are right!

UnknownMami, I knew I shouldn't have said anything.

Rek, signs are funny that way. i.e., Those creating them don't always understand that signs are supposed to provide info.

Alex, you got it! I can't stump you people.

  11. I'll be forever grateful to you for introducing me to 'stumpinator'.

It's about to become my favourite insult!

  12. I think you failed to stumpinate before scanning.

  13. Ha ha ha! I wouldn't have even noticed the "white ladder" if you hadn't pointed it out!

  15. Answer to quiz. It's gotta be 'D'. I heard that stumpinating also rids the white lines. Great blog, I'll follow.

  16. I love that word 'stumpinator'. The white ladder must surely be because you didn't stumpinate your images. [I'm going to go away and use that word in conversation now ;-)]

  19. It's clearly repeating the right side of the photo, so I'd say it's the scanner, not you. In fact, we should all change the motto to "It's not me, it's you!"

  20. It is actually secret answer G. You did not eat enough chocolate while taking the pics.

  21. PTM, true.

Rosalind, let me know how the conversations go. It's a great word to toss around.

    Shock, thanks and welcome!

Jennifer, it's a nice, funky town.

    Tessa, thank you.

Sarah, I'd say that's right but that would mean it's not me, it's you.

  23. Great pictures Robyn, but I give up...why is that image on all your pic's? I'd like to blame blogger, but I've been blaming blogger for everything these days :0)

  29. You sure are finding your fair share of funny and unique signs up there. I have no idea what that is on your photos! Are you taking them with your phone?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Great question, Pat. I didn't think about that, but, yes. I assumed it was my scanner but it was likely my phone. I'm using a digital now (finally).
