Let's Hear It for the Boy, Love!?

My Dear Sillies,
How's November treating you?

I'm at a Grecian airport in this photo. A book that's been providing cozy, delightful comfort these days, I Love You / Now Go Away, was also a big hit among my travel buddies. They took photos and/or jotted down the title. This one's a jewel, my friends. Dawn Weber, national-award-winning humorist, and my friend at Lighten Up, wrote it on her Smartphone. The whole book! Written on a Smartphone! That takes more smarts and savvy than I'll ever have. It's a hearty, human and hysterical quick read that'll keep you laughing throughout. (This recommendation is completely unsolicited, needless to say. Read it and you'll be grateful, needless to say.)
On the topic of love...

A recap: Dude Three had explained and apologized for his previous case of cold feet. He'd been trying to get over an ex, he told me. Yeah, whatever. Dude, man up or leave me alone. (Right?) Chicken sh*titude does not intrigue me. But that cute smile of his - sigh.

Then came a message a few days later: "I'm wondering if sometime this weekend you'd like to go for a picnic at Bidwell? I think that would be fun."

He did it! I felt a strong urge to provide immediate, positive reinforcement. Plus, relative to the other chicken sh*ts I'd been meeting, this one was clearly a winner and a champ. Did I mention my weakness for a man with a charming smile?  I was also drawn in by his apparent honesty mixed with a dash of vulnerability.

"Why yes, I'll gladly accept the invite," I responded.

We proceeded to make plans.

Let's hear it for the boy! Would he be my Romeo? My lovin' one man show? You've gotta understand. Oh, oh, oh, oh...Sorry. To be continued.

Be well, my friends.
Take care of yourselves, and have a good week.

  1. Huge congratulations to Dawn. My smart phone is MUCH smarter than I am. And would undoubtedly (and justifiably) sneer at anything I tried to write on it.
Sadly I am not expecting good things from Captain Chickenshit (a pessimist can never be disappointed, just pleasantly surprised).

    1. Pessimists are the smartest of people, EC. I'm a realistic cynic with a hefty dash of naive.

    1. It beats an Ode to the Jersey Airport, Mitchell. Yuck. I had a sip of water from a fountain there, as did my friend. Simultaneously, we said "YUCK!"

  3. Dawn is very special, isn't she?
Dude three has finally overcome some of his fear of you! And a picnic! Out in front of the public and everything! It must be your animal magnetism drawing him out of his hiding place. Good luck!

  10. I can barely text on my phone, let alone write a book. Wow. Impressive. And speaking of impressive...dude 3 came up with a good picnic idea. Now, please don't say he never showed or brought crappy food or....t.b.c.
Have a good week my friend

    1. I know. I mis-direct texts and/or send blank texts all the time. It's pathetic.
      Dawn's a winner.
      Enjoy your week too, Joanne.

  15. Nobody gets over their exes. What a silly idea. There's always a place of fondness and learning in the memory. It's part of life. However, I sure hope Dude Three (what sort of parents would name their boy that?) will make a go of a a park picnic. Bidwell Park was my favorite place to explore with Norma in 1970 --we'd take turns pushing the stroller (yes, our eldest turned 47 in Sept.) and look for places where "Robin Hood" had been filmed. I only knew Hooker Oak was called "Gallows Oak" in the script. It's a wonderful park. I think we might have remained in Chico except for a scarcity of employment and events recorded in a prior post (please paste and click: http://trainrideoftheenigmas.blogspot.com/2013/06/enigmatic-gallimaufry-and-fall-of-peking.html ) . I hope and trust that all turns out well for you.

    1. Yes, scarcity of employment is one of Chico's great downfalls. Fortunately, I've been able to hop from here to there and back, now doing my own thing. Thank goodness cost of living makes it doable. Will check out your post, Geo. Thank you, kind friend.

    2. Thanks, for checking out my old post, Robyn. I admire Annie Bidwell for her kindness, generosity and support of equal rights for women. I used to trespass on that property daily on my way to and home from school. Well the mansion was right there across the creek from the campus and nobody stopped me. It was a really friendly town. I have great confidence in your portrayal of Mrs. Bidwell. Her stern face for photos never fooled me --so don't spare your beautiful smile.

    3. Funny (and sweet) of you to say that, Geo. I'm already wondering how to portray such a stern character. Instead, I'll take your advice and give her the loving heart (and smile) she had but kept from the photos. Thanks so much.
PS Students and non-students take that trespassing route to this day.

Do we have proof she actually typed it on her phone, or used voice to text... mmm.. mightn't be a bad way to do a novel! You could 'write' it anywhere... like in the shower.. or on the crapper lol... Toilet humour?
